On Automated "Intrusion Response"

Stuff like this carries a unique cool factor. Is it healthy? I dunno :-)

"Developed by state-owned Rafael, See-Shoot consists of a series of remotely controlled weapon stations which receive fire-control information from ground sensors and manned and unmanned aircraft. Once a target is verified and authorized for destruction, operators sitting safely behind command center computers push a button to fire the weapon."

BTW, why still a human in the loop? Can't they go "full cyber"? :-)

Ostensibly it's because we don't trust the technology to take a human life and that's it's too much like the Terminator movies.

I think in reality it's because warrior-types (self included) feel that it's psychologically rewarding to do it yourself. =)

Well, technology improves:

IDS -> IPS, thus
sensor->HUMAN->machine gun becomes sensor -> machine gun :-)

And, admittedly, there is some fun factor in pressing the button :-) but it will likely give way to brutal efficiency :-)
